Health Alert

January 3rd, 2020, the Health Department learned of a confirmed hepatitis A case in a person living homeless. This person accessed services and traveled to multiple locations in Pierce County in December. The investigation is ongoing. Our goal is to limit the spread of disease.

 Action Requested:

  1. Clean and Disinfect your facility to stop hepatitis A – see instructions here for cleaning and PPE.
  2. Encourage people who are sick to seek medical care – see information on hepatitis A.
  3. Promote vaccination – to stop the outbreak, it is critical to vaccinate people living homeless. Refer clients to vaccine locations.
  4. Promote handwashing and hand sanitizer – to stop the spread of disease.
